What our customers say about the Sjø Protection Helmet:

“I felt like I surfed better with this than with a Gath, if that's allowed to say!”
“I forgot that I was wearing it.”
“That was light!”
“I’m very happy with the helmet.”
“Feels like wearing a beanie.”

Here’s what makes the Sjø Protection Helmet unique:

  • Custom viscoelastic polyurethane from SAS-Tec: This is a material that’s soft under normal conditions but hardens upon impact, absorbing shock effectively. SAS-Tec is known for making some of the best impact protection in motocross, mountain biking, and skiing.
  • Kevlar Exterior: Like in bulletproof vests, Kevlar provides extra protection against sharp objects like fins, rocks, reefs, and foils. This is the slightly yellow fabric you see on the helmet’s surface.
  • Adaptive Fit: The helmet molds perfectly to your head shape thanks to the flexible SAS-Tec material, which feels similar to memory foam. The shell-tightening system ensures a snug fit across a wide range of head sizes.
  • Hydrodynamic Design: The Sjø Protection Helmet is crafted to not catch water and avoid "bucket effect" We have accomplished this by putting a lot of work into the helmet’s fit, and having a low profile, only building one cm out from your head.

Additional Design Features:

  • Magnetic Fidlock buckle, easy to use even with thick wetsuit gloves.
  • Lightweight construction (275 grams) for all-day comfort.
  • Ventilation system that also channels out water and gives the helmet a great fit.
  • Built to withstand multiple impacts.
  • Exceeded the EN 1385 watersports helmet impact safety standard by 40-60% in pre-certification testing.

We know the struggle of head injuries in water sports

Three years ago, our founder Thomas was in the same position after sustaining his first long-lasting concussion from water sports. He struggled to find a helmet that offered both good protection and was so comfortable that it didn’t feel like a compromise.

Since Thomas is a mechanical engineer, he designed and built the Sjø Protection Helmet to meet his needs, which, it turns out, also fulfills the needs of many other water sports enthusiasts.

Even though our helmet is soft, it protects you from sharp objects!

We achieve this by using Kevlar, the same material used in bulletproof vests.

Kevlar helmet

The helmet with Kevlar stops the sharp object.

Non-Kevlar helmet

The helmet without Kevlar gets completely punctured by the sharp object.

Why we use Kevlar

This protects you from sharp rocks, fins, reefs, and foils.

High performance SAS-Tec impact material

The Sjø Protection helmet uses high-performance viscoelastic impact foam from SAS-Tec. This is the same material used in mountain biking and motorcycling protection.
